Sunday Morning Prayer

(Make the sign of the cross with your right thumb on your lips, saying:)

Lord, open my lips and my mouth will proclaim your praise.

INVITATORY: Come, let us sing to the Lord, and shout with joy to the Rock who saves us.

Psalm 95 (94)
Come, let us ring out our joy to the Lord;
hail the rock who saves us.
Let us come before him giving thanks,
with songs let us hail the Lord.

A mighty God is the Lord,
a great king above all gods.
In his hands are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his.
To him belongs the sea, for he made it,
and the dry land shaped by his hands.

Come in, let us bow and bend low;
let us kneel before the God who made us,
for he is our God and we the people who belong to his pasture,
the flock that is led by his hand.

O that today you would listen to his voice!
"Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the desert
when your forebears put me to the test;
when they tried me, though they saw my work.

For forty years I was wearied of these people,
and I said, 'Their hearts are astray;
these people do not know my ways.'
Then I took an oath in my anger:
'Never shall they enter my rest.'

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

Come, let us sing to the Lord, and shout with joy to the Rock who saves us.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

ANT: As morning breaks I look to you, O God, to be my strength this day.

Psalm 63 (62)
O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life.
My lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life.
In your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet.
My mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand holds me fast.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: As morning breaks I look to you, O God, to be my strength this day.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

READING (Revelation 7:10,12)
Salvation is from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb!
Praise and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving and honor, power and might,
to our God forever and ever. Amen!

[Reflect on the Reading, applying it to your life today.]

ANT: The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH (Luke 1:68-79)
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham;
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.

INTERCESSIONS
Christ is the sun that never sets, the true light that shines on every person.
Let us call out to him in praise: Lord, you are our life and our salvation.

Creator of the stars, we thank you for your gift, the first rays of the dawn,
and we commemorate your resurrection.

May your Holy spirit teach us to do your will today,
and may your Wisdom guide us always.

Each Sunday give us the joy of gathering as your people,
around the table of your word and your body.

From our hearts we thank you, for your countless blessings.

[Pray for your special intentions.]

OUR FATHER
And now we pray to God the Father in the words that Jesus taught us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen

PRAYER
God our Father, help us to seek the values that will bring us lasting joy in this changing world. In our desire for what you promise make us one in mind and heart. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen

BLESSING
May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen
