| Muesebach/Comanche Treaty
"remains the only Indian/White Treaty unbroken by either side. The final (Treaty) Session took place on March 1 and 2, 1847, at the lower San Saba, about 25 miles from the Colorado River. The Treaty was made between the head chiefs, Buffalo Hump, Santa Anna and others, with John O. Muesebach. It was ratified in Fredericksburg, TX, two months later. Since 1847 it has been celebrated annually by both sides at the Fredericksburg Powwow." See: www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online |
