I was among the group of women from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sioux Falls who visited this past weekend, Oct 27-29.  As always, we were welcomed by the monks and enjoyed our time at Blue Cloud immensely.  Thank you for extending such a valuable ministry outside your denomination.  We always look forward to spending time at the Abbey. Congratulations to all who had a hand in developing the new Abbey website. It is really splendid. Congratulations to Abbot Thomas for his blessing on letting it happen! We are currently working on a "new" website for Saint John's Abbey and I think you have done successfully most of the things that are on our wish-list. It was great seeing the portraits of the monks as well as photos of monks at work. I have sent the link to Blue Cloud to all of our monks who serve on the Abbey's Communication and Publications Committee, which I chair. We have responsibility for pulling off what you have done. I was searching the net for the word "Wicasawakan" when I found one of your pages. I sometimes use Native American history and beliefs in my writing. I really enjoyed looking through your site. I learned a great deal of information and if I was a little closer to your area, I would definitely stop in to visit. I remember coming to Blue Cloud Abbey as a child with my parents. I grew up on a farm in southwestern Minnesota. We would come to visit my great uncle "ROY" who helped out at the monastery. I don't remember much, but I do remember the feeling of being in a very special place and I remember feeling great respect for my grandfather's brother, who loved to help at the monastery. Fr. Stan was a big part of my family when I was growing up.  He performed the service on my first communion and came to our home for dinner afterward.  He maintained contact with my mother and family over these many years and sent blessed condolences when she passed.  Fr. Stan, I know that you will truly be welcomed through the gates of heaven.  It is because of your teachings in my younger impressionable years that my Catholic faith has never wavered regardless of the scandals, trials and tribulations.  I could profess my loyalty to no other religion when the Catholic Church continues to make me feel welcomed and worthy every day of my life.
