Saturday Evening Prayer
Easter Season

(Make the sign of the cross, saying:)

God, come to my assistance,
Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: May the peace of Christ fill your hearts with joy, alleluia.

Psalm 130 (129)
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord,
Lord, hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleading.

If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt,
Lord, who would survive?
But with you is found forgiveness:
for this we revere you.

My soul is waiting for the Lord.
I count on his word.
My soul is longing for the Lord
more than those who watch for daybreak.
(Let the watchers count on daybreak
and Israel on the Lord.)

Because with the Lord there is mercy
and fullness of redemption,
Israel indeed he will redeem
from all its iniquity.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: May the peace of Christ fill your hearts with joy, alleluia.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

ANT: It was necessary for Christ to suffer and so enter into his glory, alleluia.

Canticle 39 (Revelation 15:2-4)
I saw what seemed a sea of glass shot through with fire,
and by the sea were those with harps that God had given them,
those who had won the victory in the battle with the beast.
They were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God.

"Mighty and marvelous are your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of all the ages!

Who would dare refuse to honor you
or give you the glory due your name?
For only you are holy, Lord God!
All nations shall come and worship in your presence,
for all your mighty deeds now stand revealed."

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: It was necessary for Christ to suffer and so enter into his glory, alleluia.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

READING (1 Peter 2:9-10)
You are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people he claims for his own to proclaim the glorious works" of the One who called you from darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were no people, but now you are God's people; once there was no mercy for you, but now you have found mercy.

[Reflect on the Reading, applying it to your life today.]

ANT: I am the gate, says the Lord; whoever enters through me shall be saved, alleluia.

CANTICLE OF MARY (Lk 1:46-55)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed;
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: I am the gate, says the Lord; whoever enters through me shall be saved, alleluia.

INTERCESSIONS
Christ, our life and resurrection, protect us from all dangers.

We pray for Church unity and holiness so that your kingdom may be established among all nations.

We pray for those who have left your Church; may they experience the grace of your forgiveness and the joy of rising to new life.

We pray for all the living, and for all who have gone from us in the hope of resurrection.

(Pray for your special intentions.)

OUR FATHER
And now we pray to God the Father in the words that Jesus taught us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen

PRAYER
God our Father, may we look forward with hope to our resurrection, for you have made us your sons and daughters, and restored the joy of our youth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

BLESSING
May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen
