Sunday Evening Prayer
Advent

(Make the sign of the cross, saying:)

God, come to my assistance,
Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: Rejoice, O daughter of Zion.
Shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem.

Psalm 110 (109)
The Lord's revelation to my Master:
"Sit on my right;
your foes I will put beneath your feet."

The Lord will wield from Zion
your scepter of power;
rule in the midst of all your foes.

A prince from the day of your birth
on the holy mountains;
from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change:
"You are a priest for ever,
a priest like Melchizedek of old."

The Master standing at your right hand
will shatter rulers in the day of his wrath.

He, the judge of the nations,
will heap high the bodies;
heads shall be scattered far and wide.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside
and therefore he shall lift up his head.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: Rejoice, O daughter of Zion.
Shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

ANT: I am coming soon, says the Lord.
I will give to all as their deeds deserve.

Canticle 29 (Revelation 19)
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.
All his judgments are true and just.

Praise our God, all you his servants,
you who fear him, small and great.

The Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
Let us rejoice and give him the glory.

The marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.

It was granted her to be clothed
with linen bright and pure.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: I am coming soon, says the Lord.
I will give to all as their deeds deserve.

[Pause and reflect on the previous psalm.]

READING (Philippians 4:4-5)
Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice! Everyone should see how unselfish you are. The Lord is near.

[Reflect on the Reading, applying it to your life today.]

ANT: Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God; you will conceive and give birth to a Son, alleluia.

CANTICLE OF MARY (Lk 1:46-55)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed;
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen

ANT: Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God; you will conceive and give birth to a Son, alleluia.

INTERCESSIONS

Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, the way, the truth, and the life, we make our humble prayer; come and stay with us and be with us during difficult times. We pray to the Lord.

Jesus the Savior, the angel revealed your name to Joseph the just man, come and save us when we do not respect our neighbors. We pray to the Lord.

Light of the world, for whom Simeon and all the just waited, come and comfort those who are suffering mental problems. We pray to the Lord.

O Rising Sun that never sets, come and shine on those who dwell in the darkness of serious illness and the shadow of death.

(Pray for your special intentions.)

OUR FATHER
And now we pray to God the Father in the words that Jesus taught us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen

PRAYER
Father in heaven, our hearts desire the warmth of your love and our minds are searching for the light of your Word. Increase our longing for Christ our Savior and give us the strength to grow in love, that the dawn of his coming may find us rejoicing in his presence and welcoming the light of his truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen

BLESSING
May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen
